Save the Date: Community Roundtable on Earth Day, April 22, 2015!

Join us for an eventful Earth Day to celebrate a special milestone for the Roundtable: the launch of "Healthy Watersheds, Healthy People: Our Action Plan for the Lower Coquitlam River Watershed"!  The day will include an Open House to share the Action Plan for the Lower Coquitlam River Watershed, free outdoor (rain or shine!) community yoga (#MyWatershedMoment), an interactive art project, and an evening guest speaker. Everyone is welcome. Participation is free! Registration is required for some activities due to space limitations. Hope to see you there.

Time: 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location:  Coquitlam City Hall, 3000 Guildford Way.
About: Learn about how the watershed plan was developed and what the future holds for implementation of key priority strategies in 2015 and beyond.
Note: In honor of Earth Day, we encourage you to find alternative forms of transportation to get to the venue.
Registration is not required to attend the open house.

Speaker: Dr. Craig Orr, Ph.D. Conservation Advisor
Title: "Healthy Watersheds, Healthy People: Ecosystem Services and Human Well-Being"
Bio: Dr. Craig Orr is the outgoing Executive Director and continuing Conservation Advisor of the Watershed Watch Salmon Society. Orr holds postgraduate degrees in wildlife ecology (M.Sc., Acadia University) and behavioural ecology (Ph.D., Simon Fraser University), and as Executive Director, helped lead Watershed Watch over 16 years in a BC-wide involvement in water use issues, run-of-river planning, groundwater and salmon interactions, aquaculture impacts, the sustainability of salmon fisheries, and engagement organizing. Orr also continues to be active locally, representing Watershed Watch’s interests on the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable and in other processes and projects in the Coquitlam watershed, and advising Kwikwetlem First Nation on various conservation issues, including the long fight to restore Coquitlam sockeye.

We are teaming up with Watershed Watch Salmon Society and Tola Yoga & Fitness to bring another #MyWatershedMoment to the Coquitlam River Watershed. After a successful event on Rivers Day last year, we couldn't wait for another opportunity to host this special event to promote nature therapy and the importance of maintaining healthy watersheds. There will be three events throughout the day, centered around mindfulness of being in a watershed even in an urban setting. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Community Yoga at Spirit Square (Glen Pine Pavilion, 1200 Glen Pine Court)
4:00 pm - 4:30 pm Kids Yoga at City of Coquitlam City Hall Courtyard (Important: This is not a drop off event - parent participation required, registration required)
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm Community Yoga at City of Coquitlam City Hall Courtyard(Registration Required)
